I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ALL LEFT ME!!!! :) Actually I was trying out filters and settings and had great time. It's funny though, by the time I started out of the park at about 10 - there were soo many people about that I could hardly get a good shot and I felt guilty setting up my tripod because it was constantly in someone's way. Unfortunately I didn't arrive at the Eagle Festival until about 11:00 so possibly missed earlier events. On arrival, I questioned park guides as well as several individuals with serious camera gear and only found two from UT. There were several interesting and educational displays set up for both the adults and children plus some special events for the children. The Blue Heron and Eagle rookery portion of the preserve which, per staff members is only open to the public one day per year, was interesting and well staffed with knowledgeable guides. Photo taking in this area was fair at best as the roosting birds were barely visible even with a 300mm lens. I found that most of the flying birds were too quick to line up a decent shot.

Only four snappers braved the unpredictable northern VA weather and attended this meetup. The weather was overcast from arrival at 08:00 until departure at about 11:00 when it started to brighten. Most of my shooting today was of the river and surrounding banks. The river was very violent and had a brownish tinge due to the recent storms. In a way this tied in with the dreary leafless surrounding landscape. In spite of the overcast conditions I found this meetup very interesting. Because of the small group, it gave all an opportunity to discuss equipment usage and photo techniques, as well as to socialize.
