Long Brach Balloon/Wine Festival
Hot-air balloon festivals are fun to watch and fun to shoot. The balloons are so big, bright, and beautiful. Want to leave you camera at home? The festival is still loads of fun. Come enjoy the music, the food, the wine, the scenery, and best of all photography group friends
A fun-filled, action packed, three-day family celebration unfolds with the 14th anniversary of the Shenandoah Valley Hot Air Balloon, Wine & Music Festival on October 15-17, 2010. Held on the spacious lawns and rolling fields of Long Branch in Clarke County, VA, the Festival brings balloonists and their colorful airborne craft from far and wide to delight spectators of all ages. In addition to the balloons, the annual event provides a wide variety of entertainment over the weekend.
Hot Air Balloon Launches, some with unique whimsical shapes, take to the skies at
approximately sunrise (7:30 am) and again at approximately sunset (4:30 pm) – weather permitting.
Staging begins approximately one half hour prior to flights. There will also be tethered hot air balloons
on-site for spectators to enjoy the interior of the balloons and the opportunity to experience a
tethered ride – weather permitting.
Admission to the event is $15 per person. Additional admission fees for wine, beer, and Historic House Tour. Admission is free for children 12 years old and younger.
PLEASE NOTE: BALLOONS WILL ONLY LAUNCH IF WIND AND WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE.

Is anyone leaving from Dupont Circle?
FYI
Winds could be heavy Saturday morning and balloons will not launch. Sunday morning is calling for less wind.
yeah saturday the weather seems not great for the balloon. can we then meet on sunday...a better day weather wise!?
We are keeping an eye on the weather. Although the forecast calls for clear, sunny, and cool (high of 63 degrees), the winds are going to be a challenge. The forecasted winds are 12-15 mph, gusting to 30 mph, in the morning through 5pm. Most balloons are limited to 10-15 mph steady winds. Tethered balloons have different limits. The wine and music festival is still going as planned. The weather on Sunday looks to be better. A sunset launch on Saturday or a morning launch on Sunday looks better.
Are we going to meet on Saturday or Sunday? Is there a spot where we will meet? I am not sure how long it takes, I was thinking of leaving about 5:45 am from Vienna. I would like to know tonight if there is a new plan.
If you are planning to take pictures of the sunrise, Sunday might be a better option. Unfortunately, I can't make it on Sunday. I will be there during the day for the festival.
I have never been there, so if someone has a suggestion on a place to meet, welcome to share.
There is a grassy area directly in front of the mansion. The band plays there, find a spot on the grass where we can listen to the music, too. See you there today! I will be going back again tomorrow, too.
John, I am coming on Sunday with my family. Hope I will be able to find you there.
Well, the weather on Saturday was uncooperative for the balloons. I did have to chance to check out Old Town Winchester. Let's hope that Sunday is better.
I'll be heading out on Sunday... I heard about the wind forecast and thought I'd hold off. Hope to see some of you there.
