Wolf Sanctuary of PA

This location is shown only to members

This is a special situation that allows us to photograph wolves in their natural environment and support the Wolf Sanctuary. This is not a cheap trip. The fee for photographing the wolves is $75.00 for a 3-hour session (payable at the venue, credit cards OK). In addition, you need to pay for your own food and contribute gas money to the drivers. We have intentionally limited the quantity of people on this trip to prevent overwhelming the venue.

November 6 will be after the fall leaves drop and the grass is low to assure more unobstructed photographs of the wolves. I have been told the fall is the best time, so I chose Saturday Nov 6th. This should be able to give people plenty of notice to make plans for it. If we are lucky, we might have some snow!

The plan is to leave a centralized location probably in Reston at 10am. Drive up to Lilitz, PA and arrive somewhere around 1pm. Grab some lunch and get to the Sanctuary around 2:15ish. Shoot from 2:30p - 5:30p. Figure out a possible dinner plan if people are interested.

Please post in the message forums if you can drive and how many people you can take. Also please post in the same thread any questions you may have and I will confirm with the sanctuary.

Ok Perla and Rich are in MD. Is there anyone else in MD going so those in MD can coordinate riding together? We will be swinging around the 95/270 split so maybe there can be a spot the VA & MD people can meet together and then head towards Lilitz. Open to suggestions.

Will we be walking/hiking or standing in one spot? Need to know how to dress since it will be pretty chilly.

TC, Layer up so you will be comfortable in the car and in either situation during the shoot. None of us has been there before.

    I think you can get by with a 200mm. I plan to shoot with a 70-200 F2.8.

Sounds like a great place and I hope to get up there soon but Saturday is not good. On their site they mention a two hour option for $50. Seems like you could get plenty of good shots in 2 hours.

For those wondering, we will be shooting from behind a chain-link fence. As for wolf activity and photo opportunities here is what I got.

You see them they come out and check you out then go off and do what they feel like doing. You can see them in their areas. Some have lots of trees some not so many.

I think everyone will get good shots. I would recommend a zoom lens like a 80-200, and a tripod.

I'm happy I can get in on this. I live in the Ashburn area, can I ride with anyone? John or Robert can you tell me how much walking there may be and the terrain. I just had surgery on my knee and can get around really well. If I could ride with anyone please give me a call 540-664-5339.
    Thanks

    Cindy,

Not sure how much walking and terrain there is. This is a first time trip for a lot of us. I'm sure you can go at your own pace as we have a three hour window.
