Moonrise over DC, Part Deux

If my calculations are correct, on September 23rd, 2010 at 7:00 PM, the full moon will rise at 81.8 degrees east of north. The alignment of the Capital Building, Washington Memorial and Lincoln Memorial are 90 degree east of north. This should have the moon rise directly over the buildings (weather permitting).

I suggest a meetup at 5:30 at the Carrilian just off Route 50. Plan to park at the Iwo Jima Memorial and walk toward the Carrilion Tower in the direction of Arlington Cemetary. We will meet at the base of the tower.

Note: We will not be alone! It is common event so several hearty photographers are at this position for the event.

Bring telephoto zoom lens, a tripod and shutter release. A small flashlight will be beneficial.

Sorry, I had to close this event to new RSVPs. WOW! I am overwhelmed with the response! I hope I can manage the crowd. Obviously, I cannot give you individual attention, so meet someone new around you and ask for help.

All the photos are good -- great job you guys. I loved the shot of the group with all the tripods. Wish I could have joined you!

It was a good night for photography. A cloud bank from some local thunderstorm did not quite clear the horizon so we could be a shot at the horizon. However, the moon rose over the clouds and directly over the monuments.

Thanks for the great turnout. Once the moon decided to show itself, it made for a great shot. I hope everybody got some great shots - let's see 'em.

Instruction and location was excellent. The moon didn't do it's part (hidden til high). Learned some new things about my camera.
