Cemetery Field Trip

Union Cemetery (map)

Selected By: Jerry

November 1st is All Saints Day. Let's hope for a glorious Fall Day for a stroll through a local cemetery and snap some shots along the way. For those who aren't photographers, tombstone rubbings are another form of art.

Field Trip Exercise

This is "Single Subject" exercise. Pick a single tombstone. Now, come up with 100 different pictures of this monument. The point of this exercise is to make you think and experiment with different angles, lighting conditions, lenses, ranges, depth of field, etc. It will become harder and harder to come up with new treatments, but you will be surprised with what you will come up with.

Have fun!

If you are new to photography or have a new camera, please bring your owner's manual. It's nice to have if you have any camera questions.

I anticipate spending the first hour strolling through the cemetery taking various shots. We can pair up or shoot single. While strolling around, pick out your single subject tombstone. We can spend the second hour working our exercise. Is anybody interested in meeting for brunch or coffee after the shoot?

Looks like the rain has passed, but the ground appears to be soaked. I am driving over this morning to check it out.

Like everyone else, I had a great time and look forward to our next outing. The weather and lighting were a good match for the location and it was great having some coffee and "talking shop" with everybody afterward.

Thanks to everybody for coming out to this field trip. I thought the weather might not cooperate, but it turned out to be a nice day with great lighting. I look forward to the next event.

Great time! took some really nice shots, I met some really nice folks and had a chance to discuss some camera tips and trix with other fellow shooters. It looks like evenly split between platforms, Canon and Nikon, and I thought someone brought a Sony.. Great time, cant wait till the next event, thanks again to Jerry and Tatiyana for a wonderful time.

Thank you Jerry for organizing and all for joining us at the cemetery in the quiet rainy morning. It was great to meet new people with such a passion for photography. Looking forward to seeing all at the future events.
