If my calculations are correct, on February 28, 2010 at 6:22 PM the full moon will rise at 87 degrees east of north. The alignment of the Capital Building, Washington Memorial and Lincoln Memorial are 90 degree east of north. This should have the moon rise directly over the buildings (weather permitting).

I suggest a meetup at 5:30 at the Carrilian just off Route 50. Plan to park at the Iwo Jima Memorial and walk toward the Carrilion Tower in the direction of Arlington Cemetary. We will meet at the base of the tower. Note: we will not be alone! It is common event so several hearty photographers are at this position for the event.

Bring telephoto zoom lens, a tripod and shutter release. A small flashlight will be beneficial.

Dress WARM!!

Yes, John, thanks so much for organizing this meetup. It was an unbelievably beautiful moon. I still have to go through my shots. Work has had me too busy to really look in Lightroom at what I might have been able to capture!

It was beautiful but unfortunately too short. I definitely need a remote shutter :) Very good idea. Thanks John!

For those who are in terested in figuring out when and at what angle the moon rises, one source is the US Naval Observatory web site: http://aa.usno.navy.mil/dat.... Also look for an App for your iPod Touch or iPhone at the iTunes Store.

It is adjacent to the Marine Corps Memorial. Park at the Memoerial and walk towards the Carrillian Tower. You will see the tower on your left as you enter the Memorial grounds.

Just so I'm clear on the exact location, this is the same spot as the Marine Corps Memorial?

Geez, with all the RSVPs we'll look like emperor penguins with cameras and tripods! I am overwhelmed with the response for this event! I hope the sun, the moon and the weather all cooperate!

I was in this exact location last year when the full moon was rising was right at sunset but I didn't get anything worth keeping. A "Do-over" is exactly what I need so hopefully the skies will be clear.

    •  Too bad the moon disappeared behind the clouds. It was such a beautiful orange.
    •  Very cool moonrise. If only it lasted another 5 minutes
    •  Great opportunity to work on photo skills
    •  Cold weather, windy, and cloudy, but the turnout was great.
    •  Although I was aprehensive about the weather, the moon rose as a beautiful organge orb, It rose directly between the Washington Monum, ent and the Capitol building, then move behind the Capitol Building to al almost perfect position before sliding behind a cloud. Hopefully, people will upload images from tomight's shoot.
    •  Great idea and lots of fun. The people were very knowledgeable and willing to share their ideas and answer questions.
    •  Too bad, it was cloudy. The moon disappeared quickly!
