Most of us have a couple of shots that we are really proud of. It might be an incredible shot of a storm or it could be a portrait that just came out perfectly.

Unfortunately for many of us, these gold shots are few and far between. Sure, we can get the occasional brilliant photo, but we find it hard to put together time after time. Don't worry, most of us have the same problem!

The thing is that by taking your time with a few basic skills, you can greatly increase the chances that you are going to increase your average for getting that great shot. The funny thing is that none of these skills are particularly difficult.

Tonight's Workshop: It's dark out here!

Tonight we will discuss night and low-light photography. We will discuss the difficulties of taking night photos, various camera equipment and techniques for low-light shots, and learn some tricks to get that perfect picture.

Skills level: The concepts discussed in this workshop are basic elements of photography, but the discussions may get in depth.

This is a hands-on workshop and a camera is required. Please bring your camera and your questions. If you have not used your camera in awhile, or your camera is new to you, please bring along the users manual.

Keep those shutters snapping.

For those who are in terested in figuring out when and at what angle the moon rises, one source is the US Naval Observatory web site: http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/AltAz.php. Also look for an App for your iPod Touch or iPhone at the iTunes Store.

    •  It was a pleasure to share with everyone. I hope many of you got a nugget of good information. How share among yourselves and shoot, shoot shoot! I would like to see an evening when we share images we have taken.
    •  I learned some new techniques and when it gets warmer, I will do some night shooting!
    •  Thank you John for the excellent session!! Lots of new and useful information. Looking forward to seeing you and Barbara on February 28th.
    •  John, Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise with the group, and for answering all of my questions. Your tips are priceless. I thoroughly enjoyed spending the time with so many like-minded enthusiasts. I'll see you on the 28th and we'll get a good picture of the moon over the monuments, without having to use Photoshop ;-) Cheers, Jamie

I found the workshop to be very informative , John Eppler stayed on topic but took time to answer questions by members. It was a pleasure to meet everyone in the group and not once did I feel intimidated but anyone that may be more experienced than me. John was a fun, charismatic and intelligent lecturer. Once the main topic of discussion concluded John spent time sharing many trick of the trade with us. Great workshop. I can't wait for the next one.
    •  I certainly obtained some very useful information and liked the casual atmosphere.
    •  I love the way John feed people with his knowledge and experiences. That was a great, great, great... session; and very informative!
