A Christmas Light Display from Old Town Alexandria to Washington Harbour

The Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights is a favorite holiday celebration in both Old Town Alexandria and Washington, DC. Festively decorated pleasure boats light up the sky along the Potomac River including 50 powerboats, sailboats and the District's fireboat, the John Glenn spouting water 70 feet into the air. The brightly lit boats are creatively decorated as they compete in categories such as "Best in Show," "Best Thinking Outside the Christmas Box," and "Hardiest Souls."

The best place to view the Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights is the from the docks of the Alexandria marina. Santa will arrive via boat to visit with children dockside at the gazebo and will be available for photos. Inside the Torpedo Factory Art Center, many artists will hold special holiday shows with gift items.

Thanks to Mike for organizing this event. Too bad it had to snow and ruin a great opportunity for more photos. We'll have to try it again next year. Don't forget that the Blessing of the Fleet happens in the Spring.

    •  Great location, fun event, but weather was a bummer. I had fun but it was a bit too cold and soggy for me.
    •  the snow made for an interesting photo op. it started out as rain and ended up as snow..lol had a good time chatting with Rahul, Rebecca and Anna. I picked some good tips from Anna. Great oppportunity to practice my night shots. D
